Like the Mustang, the Cougar design came as a result of several teams working independently to come up with the plan.

The design was finalized in early 1965 as a "man's car that a Mustang owner could step up to." Ford believed there needed to be a step between the Mustang and Thunderbird. That part about it being a "man's car" will be addressed later.

The cat was let out of the bag in early 1966. Publicity campaigns started letting the world know of Mercury's plans and the name of the car before the first model was available for sale. With the all new Chevrolet Camaro finally making it to production earlier this year, the Mustang was given a real challenger. The second Mustang unveiled with the 540 horsepower powerplant is the new 2010 Roush 540RH, a limited content, full powertrain vehicle. Also known as the Hammer, this car comes armed with massive horsepower, a Roush rear decklid spoiler, and short throw shifter with a choice of white or black ball, the 540RH is a stoplight slayer.

Proving just how quick this car can be on the optional 18-inch Cooper RS3 tires, Roush engineers recorded an 11.8-second elapsed time at 121 mph during testing at Milan (Mich.) Dragway in early September.

“The new Roush 540RH is really intended to be a ‘sleeper’ car,” Roush explained. “It will be purposely built with minimal content as it was designed for the buyer who wanted the Roush horsepower but with a blank canvas that can be customized into their own personal one-of-a-kind ride.”

The 2010 Roush 540RH has a new suspension package which includes front and rear springs, front and rear stabilizer bars and jounce bumpers, and a subtle tone-on-tone striping package. All this comes with a suggested retail starting at $46,145 when built on a base Ford Mustang GT chassis.

Both the 2010 Roush Stage 3 Mustang and the 2010 Roush 540RH Mustang use the same engine that debuted in the 2009 Roush P-51B Mustang. In order to get this type of power from the Ford 4.6L, 3-valve engine, Roush technicians replace many of the internal components with stronger parts including forged aluminum pistons (with an increased dish to lower the compression ratio from 9.8 to 8.6), forged steel H-Beam connecting rods and a forged steel crankshaft. The fuel rails are changed, as are the fuel injectors and an upgraded fuel pump. Roush also upgrades the clutch and includes a custom-calibration for the ECM to manage the performance of the next-generation R2300 Roushcharger.

As is standard with all new Roush Mustangs, both cars will come with the anti-wheel hop kit installed during the assembly process. This part (No. 401788) is an outstanding addition to any 2005-2010 Ford Mustang GT.

It would be reasonable to expect that Ford might pass over the Mustang and instead devote more attention to its other models since it's fresh off a comprehensive revamp for the 2010 model year. However, that's not what is shaping up in the House That Henry Built.

For 2011, the Blue Oval is introducing a new 3.7-liter V6 Mustang that should give it the firepower and refinement needed to take on Chevrolet's six-cylinder Camaro and Hyundai's upstart Genesis Coupe. But it isn't just the spanking all-aluminum powerplant and its 305 horsepower and 280 foot-pounds of torque that's making the scene for the forthcoming model year. In addition to the Cleveland-sourced mill, there are a pair of fresh gearboxes, a new V6 performance package, and a host of nip/tucks to the interior and elsewhere.
Now, we could grouse on behalf of 2010 MY 'Stang owners everywhere that these upgrades weren't part of last year's mid-life updo, but instead, we'll just be happy that these advancements are arriving at all.

Despite being smaller than the outgoing 4.0-liter V6, the dual-overhead cam 3.7-liter's horsepower and torque ratings represent massive improvements over the 2010 model (305 HP dismisses 210 HP and 280 lb-ft. plays 240 torques). In fact, that's more horsepower than the 4.6-liter V8 Mustang made just a few years ago. While the 305-horse figure only allows the Mustang to pip the crosstown Camaro by a single all-important stallion in the pony car bragging wars, Ford says the powertrain will be good for 30 miles-per-gallon on the highway when paired with its new six-speed automatic, also one notch better than the Chevy.

That impressive fuel economy figure isn't just the result of the new engine -- a suite of new pieces have been developed in order to maximize performance, including a revised air intake, a pair of new six-speed transmissions (both automatic and manual), electric power steering, and even some aerodynamic tidying, including a revised front fascia, deeper front air dam, rear-wheel tire spats, different underbody shields, and a new rear decklid seal.

The Heart Transplant

Despite those incremental improvements, the centerpiece of the 2011 Mustang is obviously the 24-valve Duratec V6, and it includes Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing (Ti-VCT) and polished buckets and roller finger followers in the direct-acting mechanical bucket valvetrain, among other features. Ford officials promise that V6 buyers won't miss the roar of the V8's extra cylinders thanks to a retuned air intake and throaty standard dual exhaust. At the sneak-peek event for this new Mustang motor, Autoblog had the chance to hear the new engine fire up and rev -- and it indeed sounds sporty and purposeful. To be fair, however, we only heard the powertrain briefly in an enclosed space (a large development garage on Ford's Dearborn campus), so we'll have to wait until it's out in the open and we're behind the wheel to really get a feel for the 3.7's aural character. Other noteworthy features of the drivetrain include a deep-sump aluminum oil pan that enables less-frequent 10,000-mile oil change intervals and a 7,000-RPM redline.

On the transmission front, Ford has fitted a new six-speed 6R60 automatic with hill-start assist that allows for the 30 MPG highway bogey, as well as 19 MPG in the urban cycle (a 25 percent improvement over the 2010's 16 mpg city / 24 mpg highway figures). Prefer to shift for yourself? Expect fuel economy to suffer an iota for your enjoyment, with numbers for the six-speed manual falling to 18/29 (2010 MY: 18/26).

Naturally, with an all-new powertrain and its differing weight properties, Ford's engineers also had to turn their attention to the suspension. To that end, the 2011 V6 gets new damper and spring rates, a different rear lower control arm, and stiffer stabilizer bar bushings.

A More Electrifying Steer?

We always get a bit nervous when vehicles move to electronic power steering. Such systems may improve performance by lowering parasitic drag on the engine, but they rarely do any favors for steering feel. Ford assures us that they've worked hard to build a robust "feedback loop" into the system, but again, we'll have to wait and see for ourselves. In the meantime, we'll remain curious about how effective Ford's so-called Pull-Drift Compensation system is at accounting for road crowns and crosswinds, not to mention the amusingly named Active Nibble Control, which apparently helps to exorcise high-speed vibrations caused by wheel balance issues and warped brake rotors. And about those brakes -- they're bigger. 11.5-inches in front and 11.8-inchers out back have been borrowed from the GT's parts bin, and there's also a standard limited-slip differential to help get the V6 model's newfound power to the ground.
The Performance Model

What V6 Mustang are we most eager to drive? The new Performance Package model, which is scheduled to go on sale next August, as it promises to provide increased grip and go. For starters, the Perf Pack borrows the uprated front struts and rear shocks/springs from the V8 GT model, along with its thicker front and rear anti-roll bars and the rear lower control arms from the Shelby GT500. Also included is a 3.31 axle ratio for better acceleration, model-specific 19-inch alloys wrapped in Pirelli summer rubber, more lenient stability control programming with a dedicated sport mode, as well as a strut tower brace and the usual assortment of badges.

How will street spotters identify the new V6 Mustang? If the dual exhaust isn't enough of a tip-off, you'll probably have to check the glass. For 2011, all Mustangs get nifty integrated blind-spot mirrors -- and if you peek inside the driver's side window, you might catch a glimpse of the new-look instrument cluster which features a 160 MPH speedo and an 8,000-RPM tach.

How Much -- and What's Next?

Ford has yet to release any performance estimates or pricing, but despite the big jump in power and content, we don't expect pricing to increase dramatically. Given that the augmented V6 nearly shades the current 4.6-liter V8's horsepower figure (and the fact that the latter engine is comprehensively outgunned by the Camaro SS' 6.2-liter engine's 426 hp and 420 pound-feet of torque, it's no surprise that a new V8 engine is rumored, and we fully expect to see it before this domestic auto show season is out.

The takeaway from all of this? For those who thought that the rekindled pony car wars reached a fever pitch this year with the advent of the refreshed Mustang, long-awaited Camaro and still-warm Dodge Challenger, well ... we ain't seen nothin' yet.

It should. Better news? For starters, let me say the wait is officially over. Returning once again for 2010, the Ford Mustang is more powerful, features a revised interior and exterior, and is available with options such as a backup camera, voice activated navigation, and 19-inch wheels. In a press statement, Paul Randle, Mustang chief engineer said, "The new Mustang marks new levels of both power and refinement. We've designed and engineered this to be the next classic Mustang that everyone talks about for years and years." One thing's for certain. Enthusiasts everywhere have been eagerly awaiting the reveal of the 2010 Mustang. And now the wait has come to an end.
For starters, two engines will be available for the Mustang: A 4.0L V-6 and a 4.6L V-8.
•4.0L V-6: 210 hp and 240 lbs.-ft. of torque

•4.6L V-8: 315 hp and 325 lbs.-ft of torque
Of note, the V-8 engine will get a boost of 15 horsepower, bringing its numbers to 315 hp and 325 lbs.-ft of torque. How so? Well, the engineers at Ford have equipped the new base 2010 GT Mustang with an air-induction system pioneered on Ford's extensive racing programs. This true ram-air system delivers a colder, denser intake charge to the cylinders resulting in increased horsepower and torque. Randal said, "That means more horsepower and more torque in all driving conditions." Ford also increased the redline of the V-8 Mustang to 6,500 rpm.
The 4.0L V-6 Mustang will return once again with its 210 hp and 240 lbs.-ft. of torque.

Best of all, both engines will be able to run on regular unleaded just fine. According to powertrain supervisor Chris Roxin, "The 2010 Mustang runs great on regular fuel, and that is where we quote our peak numbers, but we also have a great dual-adaptive knock calibration that allows the 2010 Mustang to run on regular fuel as well as premium fuel, and the system figures it out itself." He added that premium fuel can improve the torque of the engine in the low- to mid-rpm range.

I bet you didn't know the much touted Shelby GT-350s of the same years were basically just hot-rodded Mach Ones with some lighter weight fiberglass body parts and a roll bar. The Boss 302 and 429 versions of this model didn't get roll bars or fancy fiberglass fenders, but some additional suspension tweaks and honest-to-God race car motors dropped in them, instead.

But they were all essentially modified Mach Ones.

Ready to be unveiled at next week's Speciality Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show in Las Vegas, the curvaceous newcomer is the work of independent coachbuilder Anteros.

The swooping rear shoulder line and droop snoot nose are designed to be reminiscent of 'vettes of the Sixties.

Three variants have been produced. The Anteros XTM Roadster is pictured here, while an XTS Targa and an XTR Hardtop are also ready to hit the road.

The trio is built around the latest Corvette ZO6 chassis, but the engine is supercharged. Thought to be shared with the forthcoming high-performance flagship version of the Corvette - nicknamed Blue Devil - the blown 7.0-litre V8 has massive performance potential. In standard naturally aspirated tune the unit delivers 498bhp, but this grows to up to 650bhp in the Anteros. Prices have yet to be announced.

Meanwhile, Corvette's own model development is gaining momentum. The latest prototype of the supercar- beating Blue Devil has recently been out testing at the Nürburgring circuit in Germany, and is now nearing production. The showroom-ready version, to be unveiled next year, should be priced at less than 0,000 (£54,000).

The demise of the Pontiac brand killed off any dreams that General Motors might create a Firebird model out of the new 2010 Chevy Camaro, but fans of the car may find some comfort in the Trans Am conversions that are being readied by the crew over at "Trans Am Depot". The company said that it will unveil a one-off Kevin Morgan "Trans Am" Concept at the 2009 Trans Am Nationals at the end of the month with the production version kits set to be available for order later this year.

The Phoenix T/A project that is said to recall the '77 - '78 Trans Am will feature among other things, new front and rear fascias, unique alloy wheels, lowered suspension and turned aluminum inserts in the interior plus a series of performance upgrades.

Trans Am Depot said that the company will be offering everything from the body conversion only to the limited Phoenix Edition with details, pricing and delivery information to be released at a latter date.

The 2011 version of the Ford Shelby GT500 Mustang carries a supercharged 5.4-liter V8 that weighs less, delivers more power and uses a unique spray-coating process that eliminates the need for cast-iron liners in the aluminum cylinder block.

The 550-hp Shelby GT500 also loses something from the previous model--it's gas-guzzler tax. Ford says the new Shelby GT500 will deliver 23 mpg on the highway and 15 mpg in the city. The engine is rated at 550 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque.

Ford released details on the new Shelby GT500 on Monday. The car will be sold in coupe and convertible body styles, going on sale this spring as part of the full 2011 Mustang line.

The use of aluminum for the block helps cut 102 pounds from the engine. Instead of cast-iron cylinder liners, Ford uses a process named Plasma Transferred Wire Arc to spray a thin coating of iron on the inside of the cylinder bores. The process, adapted from the aerospace industry, saves eight pounds compared with a traditional aluminum block with iron liners, Ford says.

For those seeking even better handling performance, an available SVT Performance Package adds lighter wheels, a higher rear-axle ratio, stiffer springs and unique high-performance Goodyear tires.

Other changes include electric power steering and high-intensity discharge headlamps as standard equipment, and an optional glass roof for the coupes. All Shelby GT500s will continue to be fitted with Ford's stability-control system.

The Chevrolet Corvette is a sports car that has been manufactured by Chevrolet since 1953. It is built today at the GM manufacturing center in Bowling Green, Kentucky. It was the first all-American sports car built by an American car manufacturer.

The Corvette is rich in history. It’s also rich in nostalgia,meaning, and hope for many dreamers who are in live with the classic American muscle car. There are a lot of different types of Corvette Clubs one that fascinates me is the Corvette Restorer clubs. Thousands of Americans spend their every waking hour working on their corvettes.

To touch briefly on the Corvette and it’s history you have to remember the era of the 1950’s. I’m to young to remember so I had to ask around. We weren’t in such a hurry then and simplicity was key. The growth of the European luxury sports car was beginning to grow in America and one man had a vision to begin The American Sportscar. His name was Harley Earl. He worked for General Motors.

Originally the Corvette was named the EX-122, that was the design prototype name given by early designers when working on the project. Before the name was finally picked by Harley Earl it was suggested they name it The Corvair. But Harley selected Corvette, naming it after a fast type of British Royal Navy Ship.

The “corvette ship” was born out of dire need at the beginning of World War Two for something to fill the gap until the larger destroyers could be brought on line. The design that was used was an untested one based on a whaling ship. So a lighweight ship named the corvette ultimately became famous for being the American sports car.

In 1954 GM starts selling Corvettes to the general public. By the 1970’s the Corvette had solidified itself as The benchmark in American Sports Cars. Something it still holds on to until today.

In reality we haven't seen anything that leads us to this conclusion but Mexican automotive site Myautomovil is speculating that Ford Motor Company may be planning on producing a limited edition Mach 1 Mustang in 2011. Their reasoning is that with the Mustang's new competition, the Camaro SS and Challenger SRT8, having so much more horsepower that Ford will want to level the playing field with a vehicle that stands somewhere between the Mustang GT, and the Shelby GT500. That vehicle would be a 2011 Mach 1.

Assuming that this is true what could we expect? First off it would only make sense that the Mach 1 would be the perfect candidate for the rumored "Coyote" engine. It is speculated that the new 5.0L DOHC powerplant puts out over 400 horsepower which would put it right up there with the competition. With the hp wars level again Ford could then focus on aesthetics. One could only assume that 2011 Mach 1 would be get the same basic treatment as previous models including a big shaker cowl sticking out of the hood, side and hood stripes in matte black, a black chin spoiler, side window louvers, and vintage style five spoke wheels possibly in the 20" range.

So is it going to happen? Only Ford knows for sure and they aren't letting the cat out of the bag. Just keep your fingers crossed!

That said, any car buff worth his or her Hurst shifter is probably wondering: Which is better, the Chevy Camaro SS, the Dodge Challenger R/T or the Ford Mustang GT?

Comparing the three cars by stats alone, you can see that GM made sure it could muscle its way to the top with more horsepower, but Edmunds gave the Mustang props for better handling and Challenger got points for retro attitude and styling.

Is it the future of our all time famous Ford mustang.Well not just yet.Lee Iacocca is 85. Despite being instrumental in creating some of the most successful cars in the last decade — the Ford Mustang, Chrysler K-Cars, and the minivan — he hasn't yet dipped his hand in the ever trashy classy market of customized Mustangs.

The 45th (we'll call it the 45th, OK?) is a Mustang GT with Ford Racing parts, bodywork redesigned by Gaffoglio Family Metalcrafters, and "Iacocca" badging all over it.
I'd take it more seriously, if the press release didn't say things like, "The Silver Edition Mustang perpetuates the Iacocca mystique." With lines like that, it sounds like Iacocca is Zorro or something.

Dodge Motorsports today revealed the Dodge Challenger as the “New Car” for the NASCAR Nationwide Series and announced an expansion of its partnership with Penske Racing beginning in 2010. Dodge will provide support for Penske Racing’s two-car operation in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, in addition to Penske’s three teams in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.

As the performance brand of our new company, we are excited to expand our relationship with Penske Racing and introduce the iconic Dodge Challenger as our entry into the NASCAR Nationwide Series,” said Ralph Gilles, President and CEO, Dodge Car Brand. “Motorsports are a significant part of the Dodge brand’s legacy. Penske Racing has such a rich tradition in motorsports, and our partnership in the Nationwide Series will provide an excellent opportunity to showcase the Challenger and offer our loyal Dodge enthusiasts plenty of excitement in this very competitive series next year.”

Penske Racing will field two teams, both running the full-season schedule. The Dodge Challenger will be used at the four “New Car” races NASCAR has designated, starting at Daytona in July. At the other 31 events that complete the 35-race season, Penske Racing will field Dodge Chargers as it did this season with the No. 12 Verizon Wireless Dodge Charger driven by Justin Allgaier. Remember the movie Dukes of hazzard.Sure we do!Well thats one of the movie that made our Dodge charger famous in that time.Not just that it is still popular today.Movie was a hit and thecar was a hi.Correct me if I'm wrong, but the South lost. Secession never succeeded. Lincoln united our country in a way that no president has done since (and heaven knows we need right now).

So, how is this an issue for a presidential campaign? Sure, there are those in the south (and in South Carolina) who would like to see the Confederate flag in more public places than simply on top of an orange 1969 Dodge Charger - but how is this a federal issue?

Simple: it's not. It's a state's issue.

Well here we see some of the worst crashes in chevy corvette history.Not because it has bad handeling its because some people can't take so much of that raw power.No problem.Still you canals get unlucky while driving.One thing i will like to say is drive safe.If you are driving a fast car doesn't mean u can drive it fast or try to fly it away.You will still have to stop at signals.So you are not going to get any medal for speeding.Only medal you will be getting is a ticket or if you are unlucky enough you will lose you life.BE SAFE OUT THERE guys

PONTIAC, Mich. – When it was introduced at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit earlier this year, the 2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1’s power was estimated at 100 horsepower for each of its 6.2 liters of displacement.

Now, GM Powertrain has completed SAE certification of the ZR1’s supercharged LS9 V-8, and the results exceed the estimate: 638 horsepower (476 kW) and 604 lb.-ft. of torque (819 Nm). The LS9’s output is nearly 103 horses per liter, or just about 1.7 horses for each of the engine’s 376 cubic inches. It is the most powerful automotive production engine ever manufactured by General Motors and enables the Corvette ZR1 to achieve a top speed of more than 200 mph (322 km/h).

One of the most amazing things about the Corvette ZR1 is the level of refinement that our designers and engineers have attained. Even with all that power, this car has road manners that will allow our customers to enjoy it on the streets as a daily driver, and on the track,” said Chevrolet General Manager Ed Peper.
